Icon Creation Workshop
Sunday, October 29, 2023, 11:15 AM
In addition to our Altar of Remembrance, our Eucharist for November 5th will include a litany of Saints and the reciting of the Necrology - the list of those beloved of our community who have died since last All Saints Day. On that day you may also wish to spend some time visiting the altar and saying a prayer for those in our community journeying through grief.
On the Sunday prior to All Saints Day, all ages are invited to create remembrance icons to celebrate loved ones who have died but whose influence on our lives and our faith remains with us. A variety of artistic media and creative materials will be provided along with examples and guidance for creating decorated icons. You are encouraged to bring a copy of a photograph (or two) of those who you wish to remember to either serve as your artistic inspiration or to be used in the creation of your icon. In addition to images of your beloved loved ones who have died, you are also welcome to bring images of your favorite saints or other holy ones who have inspired your faith and who form this “great cloud of witnesses.” This is an intergenerational event and all ages and stages of life are welcome to join for whatever part of the afternoon they are able!
A simple meal will be provided and we encourage you to RSVP so that we may plan for enough supplies and food!
RSVP to attend on Sunday, October 29th
Our creations (along with any other photos or mementos) will be placed on an Altar of Remembrance in our sanctuary for our November 5th celebration of All Saints Day. We perform this ritual to honor the influence of those whose lives shaped and formed our faith.
