Entering into the Advent Season
This year, the Advent season begins on Sunday, November 27th and will continue until the day before Christmas.
During these four weeks, we are invited to focus our energies on searching, reflecting, dreaming and beholding as we prepare to welcome Christ into our world in the celebration of the Incarnation at Christmastime.
At St. Paul's we'll journey into this season through our unique Finding the In(n) program after church on Sundays (11:15-12:30 - click here for more information).
In addition, we also will enter into the season in a series of daily reflections from Vibrant Church Communications centered around the theme of "Shadow and Light"
These resources will be shared on our social media pages (Instagram & Facebook) and you can read each daily reflection there.
If you'd also like to access hard copy print versions of a reflection booklet (preview the booklet here), an advent calendar or paper countdown-chain or an image flip book (scroll down to see a photo of the options) please complete the form at the bottom of this page to let us know if we can provide these resources for your own personal or household Advent journey!
“To be human is to live by sunlight and moonlight, with anxiety and delight, admitting to limits and transcending them, falling down and rising up. To want a life with only half these things in it is to want half a life.”
—Barbara Brown Taylor, Learning to Walk in the Dark
Advent is a season of looking forward to the new light of Christ, but as Barbara Brown Taylor says, we’d be missing out on half the story if we didn’t also find grace and wonder in the midst of shadows.
Each week we’ll use scripture, song, prayer, and practice to prepare for the birth of the Christ child, finding what is holy in the spectrum from shadow to light.
This resource was created by Jo Nygard Owens in collaboration with Elsa Cook of cookingwithelsa.org.
