Social Justice Guest Speakers - October 16, 2022
Exploring Alternatives to Incarceration.
Jesus proclaimed "release to the captives" (Luke 4:18). After the 10 AM service on October 16, two advocates for incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women and girls will discuss their work to transform the way we respond to harm and to develop alternatives to incarceration. From the speakers: "Please join Families for Justice as Healing and the National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls for a discussion about how we can create what different looks like in Massachusetts by releasing women from incarceration and resourcing communities so we all have what we need to thrive. Hear about how there's still time to work together to pass the Jail and Prison Construction Moratorium this year so we can stop the $50 million women's prison and pause expansion of incarceration for 5 years in MA. Learn about our efforts to bring mothers, grandmothers, survivors [of sexual violence], and aging and sick women home from state prison. We'll talk about Reimagining Communities and the visionary work that formerly incarcerated women are leading to heal our neighborhoods and stop the flow of women and girls into incarceration.
