Rector's Reflections: Our Wardens
Dear Friends,
As you may know, Renée Graham and Hamish Blackman took up the mantle of being our Co-Wardens (co-chairs of our "vestry" or board) during a time of great transition in 2019. They were at the helm when I was called to be your priest and they graciously agreed to stay on through my first year, 2020....which also ended up being a year of untold challenges beyond that of just orienting a new priest!
It was a complicated season in our shared life, so they agreed to be Co-Senior Wardens for 2021 too, so we could return to a model of Sr/Jr Warden staggered by a year, and Betsy Komjathy stepped up to join the Warden Team.
As we enter the mysterious and un-chartered territory of the 2021/2022 program year (God. be with us!) we will start to experience a transition in Renée and Hamish's involvement. While they remain our Sr. Warden's, vocational realities for each of them leave them with less time to be involved in every aspect of running our church. They aren't going away! But being a Warden is a big time commitment and they will have less time in the Fall to offer.
Betsy will take on more of the team's work, and we will begin to discern who our next Jr. Warden will be to partner with Betsy and me in the work of leading our community.
We ask you to pray with us during this time.
Pray for Renée and Hamish, that their full lives leave them feeling fed and that they know the depth of our gratitude for them.
Pray for Betsy as she takes on more of the load, and fuel her with our gratitude.
Pray for our next Warden, that they feel called and energized by the work ahead.
And please pray about who in our community might be equipped to take up this ministry. I would love to hear from you if (in your own prayerful discernment) you feel that either you or someone who is already a role model and engaged member of our community may be called to be a leader of our congregation as the next Jr. Warden of St. Paul's Church.
What a blesséd community we have.
Yours in Christ,
